Blackboard pictures and podcast

Description: Pictures taken from the mainstream school’s classroom are sent along with a podcast to the child staying in hospital or at home during illness. Podcasts are programmes - music or talk - made available in digital format for automatic download over the Internet. The combination of the podcast and pictures of the blackboard facilitates learning and staying in contact with the other students in the mainstream school.
Notes: The combination of blackboard pictures and a podcast is a very simple practice that may look as an "egg of Columbus", but it works and needs just an internet connection, a smartphones (or a camera) for the pictures and some competences in audio editing for the podcast. Making a podcast is rather simple. See instruction on http://www.wikihow.com/Start-Your-Own-Podcast. Audacity and or Garageband, maybe even iTunes (Mac) or Windows Media Maker for PCs enablethe recording and editing of the audio file. It really helps the student at home to be updated on what happens in the classroom during the time of illness. It involves also other students in the process for production of the blackboard pictures and the podcast, and so it may even motivate the classmates to learn more or in a better way as they are willing to support the student with medical needs. It even helps them appreciate the potential of technology for education. Although the used technologies and application are not complex, it probably may work only at high school level, unless help is given by teaching assistants or ICT technical staff in the mainstream school. It is not really inclusive education, therefore it lacks real time interaction. Maybe it can be included into a more structured platform, as e.g. Edmodo Moodle, Blendspace or whatever may work as a hub or aggregator for such content.
